Teaching Case Studies

In Beginning Typography at Columbia College Chicago, students investigate the basic aspects of letterforms and typography through a variety of projects. Early emphasis is placed on the abstract geometric qualities of letterforms based on the work of Norman Ives. Students are exposed to the historical background, technical and aesthetic issues, and communicative abilities of typography as individual forms and as text.
